Osteoporosis describes bones that are more fragile, typically due to bone loss from age and menopause, leading to propensity to fractures, hence the typical profile is the elderly post-menopausal women.

However, osteoporosis can occur also in men and in younger age groups due to multiple risk factors at play including steroids usage, vitamin D deficiency, and patients who have undergone hormonal treatment for cancer particularly breast cancer or prostate cancer etc.
